Union Health Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan lays Foundation Stone of Mon Medical College , the Second Medical College of Nagaland.

 

Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan laid the foundation stone of Mon Medical College, the second Medical College  in Nagaland in the presence of Chief Minister, Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio.

 

The Minister while addressing the ceremony said, the college in the Mon district, considered as one of the most backward and farthest districts from the state capital, will help bring affordable secondary healthcare services and facilities to nearly 2.5 lakh people.

 

The project is scheduled to be completed by the year 2023-24, and  is approved at an approximate investment of Rs.325 crore with a central share of Rs 292.50 crore under Phase III of the centrally sponsored scheme for establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing district or referral hospitals.

Vardhan also praised the efforts of healthcare workers in combating COVID-19 and said India is ahead of many developed countries in the war against the pandemic. 

 

Chief Minister, Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio while addressing the event,  said that the college will not only benefit Mon and Nagaland but also the people living in neighbouring states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and even Myanmar.
