Revised regulations, Mathematics Physics not compulsory for Engineering degrees, says AICTE

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), has revised rules an made Mathematics and Physics subjects optional for the students for admissions to BE and BTech courses from the academic year 2021-22. 

This recent development would impact the future of Engineering education in the country, as it is going to  open ways for the aspiring engineering candidates  coming from diverse backgrounds.

As per the recently released AICTE approval process handbook 2021-22  with the new regulation, students have to pass 10+2 with any three of the following 14 subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Electronics, Information Technology, Information Practices, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational subject, Agriculture, Engineering, Graphics, Business Studies, Entrepreneurship.

Students must obtain at least 45%  (Unreserved category) and 40% (reserved category) marks in any three subjects (from the above list) in the class 12th board exams to apply for admissions in Under graduate courses in Engineering.
