IIT Guwahati & Gifu University Japan Award Degrees To the First Batch Of Joint International Programme Graduates.

Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati and Gifu University, Japan have awarded the degrees to four students for joint international master’s programme in food science and technology on March 25,2021.

The students were awarded the degree in a virtual ceremony organised at Gifu University,Japan in the presence of  Prof T G Sitharam, Director,IIT-G,  
Prof S K Kakoty, Deputy Director, IIT Guwahati, Prof Chitralekha Mahanta, Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof Mihir Purkait, Dean, Alumni & External Relations and other dignitaries.

The students have completed their classes in IIT Guwahati for the semester, period – July 2019 to November 2019. 

With an aim to nurture highly skilled professionals in the food and related industries, IIT Guwahati and Gifu University, Japan have collaborated for this Joint International Programme in April 2019.

While addressing the event virtually Prof T G Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, said, “This is indeed a historic moment for the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Gifu University, Japan that our joint vision, commitment and collaboration to establish this Joint Degree Programme is finally bearing fruit”. 

He further congratulated the four students and lauded the efforts of faculty members for the success of the programme. 

“The quality of researchers, students and faculty will ensure that we become role models in running a successful international collaboration programme” he added.

Prof Hisataka Moriwaki, President, Gifu University, Japan, also congratulated both the Institutes and wished the graduating class for a successful future. He was accompanied by Prof Fumiiaki Suzuki, Gifu University Fellow. 

Prof. S.K.Kakoty, Deputy Director-IIT Guwahati, in his address underlined that this was a milestone for both the Institutions and extended his wishes to all the students.

Prof Chitralekha Mahanta, Dean-Academic Affairs, IITGuwahati, while highlighting the course content in her address said, “the course and content of the Joint Degree Programme and the stay of Japanese students at IIT Guwahati have not only enhanced their knowledge and understanding of their academic field, but also of the life and culture of the people of India in general and the people of Assam in particular”. 

“This exchange of academics and culture will continue to foster and strengthen the bonds between our two institutions and our countries”, she added.
