A 7 day National Yoga Workshop, an initiative by University of Science and Technology,Meghalaya in association Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak, M.P.

A Change In The Way We See Education : Importance Of Yoga And Meditation In our Lives.

When we hear the word ‘yoga’, a picture might pop up of twisted postures and painful poses ,  whereas yoga is much more than that. There is always a lack of understanding of its importance and  benefits in our lives.

An initiative on teaching the importance of yoga in our lives was taken by USTM, Meghalaya by organising a 7 Days National Workshop on Yoga USTM in association with Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak, M.P..

This workshop was organized under the joint aegis of the Department of Physiotherapy, University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya and the Faculty & department of Yoga, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh from 2nd-8th  August 2021 on the theme “Yoga to Overcome Crisis in Personality Development due to prolonged Covid-19″.

More than 1000 participants from across the country have participated in the workshop.

The workshop consisted of practical sessions along with presentations, discussion and lectures on 7 different themes for 7 days. It started with an inaugural session with the theme propagating yoga to fight back the recent surge in pandemic and the new-normal life.

Prof. Shripraksah Mani Triparthi, Vice Chancellor-Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak had graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The keynote speaker of the inaugural session was Prof. B.R. Ramakrishna,Vice Chancellor-S-VYASA, Bangalore. The Chairperson of the session Prof GD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, USTM discussed about disciplined way of lifestyle, different components of personality development, the contribution of yoga and other ancient knowledge in the personality development of an individual. He also said own mind control will help the inner personality building.

Second Session was presided by Prof .N.V Raghuram, Yogbharti, USA on the theme “Yoga and meditation are the Key players in stress management and in the management of depression during the prolonged Covid 19 situation and other health routine.

The theme of third session was “Yoga as complete solution for Life Management”. The session was presided by Chairperson Prof. Ishwar Bhardwaj, Former Dean, Faculty of Medical science and Health, Professor & Head, Department of Yoga where the silent features of Yoga for Psychosocial factors, Healthy life style, Fitness and Wellness, Mental Peace were discussed.

The Fourth session was on the topic “Role of Yoga in Treatment and Preventions”. The session was presided by Chairperson: Prof Jitendra Kr. Sharma, Prof. Deptt. of Yoga, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak, M.P. The session enlightened the benefit of Naturopathy, Ayurveda, Diet & Nutrition in Increasing immunity along with Yoga and remedies for problems related to digestive system.

The Fifth Session was on the theme “The mechanism to overcome the Common problems such as diabetes / uncontrolled blood pressure / obesity / heart disease / corona related problems with yogic practices”. The session was presided by Chairperson Prof. Alok Shotriya, Dean & HOD Yoga, IGNTU, Amarkantak, M.P.

The 6th Session was on the theme YOGIC Psychotherapist,  was presided by Chair Person Prof. J.S. Tripathi, Former HOD, Deptt. of Kayachikitsa, Institute of Medical Science, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. The session discussed on the synchronized approach of Yoga in Management for Emotional Balance, Scope of Rehabilitation and Yagya therapy.

The workshop concluded with a fruitful valedictory session which was graced by Honourable Chancellor of USTM Shri M. Hoque. The Chief Guest of the session was Prof BK Triparthi, Director, Inter University Centre for Teacher education, BHU, Varanasi. Prof. Tripathi emphasized on the importance of yoga and urged that this should be included in the regular academic curriculum by all the academic institutions.

 The workshop concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Dr. R. K. Sharma, Advisor of University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya.
