18th convocation of National Institute of Technology Silchar held
National Institute of Silchar’s (NIT) 18th Convocation was held online on November 02, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic precautionary norms. The convocation was addressed by the Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and Assam chief minister Sarbanda Sonowal. Degrees and medals were awarded online during the convocation of NIT Silchar to the students graduating from the institute this year. The education minister, Pokhriyal congratulated NIT Silchar for achieving 46th rank in the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2020 and mentioned the rise in rank to fifth position from NIRF-2019.
A total of 881 students were awarded their degrees, which includes 572 B. Tech. students in various engineering disciplines, 188 MTech students, 30 MSc students and 43 MBA students and 48 PhD students
The undergraduate’s gold medal was given to Kshitij Mehrotra, a mechanical engineering graduate for achieving the highest CPI in the institute. The gold medal for best undergraduate student was awarded to Jha Prakash, a computer science and engineering student. The post-graduate gold medal was given to Sujith T. of mechanical engineering, whereas the Kalikrishna Mrinalini Memorial gold medal went to Hladini Agnivesh from electrical engineering and the recipient of the Saswata Purakayastha Memorial Gold Medal was Ashis Ranjan of electrical engineering. Kalyani Rajkumari, a PhD degree recipient from the chemistry department was awarded the Best Doctoral Degree Award. The distinguished faculty award went to Professor Saurabh Chaudhury.
